Five Benefits of using Action Register:

1. Corrective action plans. When business objectives are not being met based on the scorecard objectives, the team must generate a corrective action plan to improve and achieve desired performance.

2. Best practices. When performance exceeds scorecard objectives, the team should use the action register to record lessons learned. These lessons are distributed throughout the company so all teams benefit from best practices.

3. Meetings. Use action registers in all meetings to record actions and ensure timely completion. Action registers help make meetings business-focused, create urgency, and drive to specific outcomes.

4. Individual. Leaders have to accomplish a tremendous amount of tasks on a daily basis. During daily operations, employees and business contacts add to these tasks. As soon as employees give their leaders an action, they expect immediate results. When this does not occur, they lose trust with their leaders. The personal action register can break this cycle. Leaders record actions from employees and review progress based on those actions in team meetings. Consistency in action builds trust within the company.

5. Performance management. The action register can be used to track individual performance in two critical ways:

a) Who is engaged? By observing who volunteers for actions, leaders can clearly see who is engaged in team operations and who is not.

b) Timely completion of registered actions. Performance can be tracked by assigning completion target dates. This provides a record of performance. There should be a business reason for missing target dates.
